10-11 YEARS

  • forming two diamonds

  • increasing the space by good positioning

  • playing the ball safely with position play

  • forming triangles

  • individual actions and passing to the team-mate in the best position

Opposition’s ball possession



  • narrowing down the area by positioning

  • helping and covering one another

  • disturbing the opposition in building up, preventing passes

  • attacking the player with the ball, winning the ball

12-13 YEARS


4-3-3 ball possession




  • forming three diamonds, learning position play


  • this formation gives a great freedom to teamwork

14-15 YEARS


3-4-3 Ball possession




  • forward play is based upon continuous ball possession



    • this formation ensures the application of position play


    • every player can join in the attacks


    • quick combinational play can be applied


  • the forwards can be played to by passing to the midfielders


  • power play situations can be created

Opposition’s ball possession




  •  through close positioning of parts of the team (defenders, midfielders, attackers)



    • the opposition’s combinational play can be prevented


    • the opposition has less chance to play the ball into empty areas


  • the players are forced continuously to change

16-17 YEARS


4-4-2 Ball possession




  • practising shifting play



    • with the movement of the two forwards, lots of free space can be created


    • the success of the attack can be ensured with inward and outward movements in depth and in width

Opposition’s ball possession




  • zone defence is based on two four-player lines


  • defending is oriented towards the ball on the whole of the pitch


  • the opposition is to be disturbed early and the ball won by applying pressure
